Social Science Workshop

Realizing the significance of education and the importance of the on-ongoing formation of teachers, a workshop christened 'Enhancing Educational Techniques- Innovative Approaches in Social Science Education' was organized for the Social Science teachers of St. Joseph's CBSE, by the school on 23rd May 2024. The Venue was the Board Room. The participants included educators from various grade levels, bringing a diverse range of experiences and perspectives
The session started at 9 pm with prayer followed by the Introduction and felicitation of the workshop facilitator- Ms. Mini Johnny, the Founder and Principal of Yashasvi Vidyanikethan, the CBSE resource person for social science. she is also the curriculum committee member of the CBSE board for social science for the academic year 23-24&24-25 Anyone who stops learning is old - whether this happens at twenty or at eighty. Anyone who keeps on learning not only remains young but becomes constantly more valuable - regardless of physical capacity. -Henry Ford
Hence the objective of this workshop was to equip social science teachers with innovative teaching strategies, tools, and resources to enhance student engagement and understanding in social science subjects by adopting a more interactive and student-centered approach to teach Social Sciences. A video about the traditional teaching method was an apt opening to focus on the epistemological transition that is needed in teaching Social Science. The scope and importance of Social Science in today's scenario was emphasized.
'Pair, Think and Share' was the first activity conducted for the teachers, by the resource person as the entire workshop aimed at making the teachers engage in activity-based teaching.
The topics that were covered during the session had to do with the creative methodology of teaching Social Science. 'Inquiry-Based Learning' 'Use of Case Studies to Enhancing Critical Thinking and Analytical Skills' and 'Real-Life Scenarios'
The key takeaways of the workshop were the multiple creative activities the teacher can make use in teaching. To name a few 1. Role plays, 2. Group discussion 3. So we conclude that the workshop for social science teachers, conducted by Mini Johny on 23rd May 2024 at St. Joseph CBSE School, was a significant success. It provided valuable insights and practical strategies to enhance the teaching and learning of social sciences. The interactive and collaborative format of the workshop was particularly appreciated, making it a productive and enriching experience for all attendees.
It was an interesting and interactive, hands-on session where participants worked in groups to incorporate the activity methods discussed. It was an Open floor for the teachers to share their thoughts and learning for the rest of the teachers to see creativity among their peers.
